Food Bank Names New Chief Program Officer

Posted on August 1, 2022 by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

PITTSBURGH, PA (July 14, 2022) Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (the Food Bank) has named Charlese McKinney the organization’s new Chief Program Officer. McKinney succeeds Marnie Schilken who has served in the role since 2017.

McKinney, who has been with the Food Bank since 2008, most recently served as Director of Partner Network Programs. In her new role, McKinney will oversee three program areas that connect people to food and other essential resources through a network of more than 1,000 partners across an 11-county service area known as the three rivers region.

“We are thrilled to have Charlese succeed Marnie as Chief Program Officer,” Lisa Scales, Food Bank president and CEO said. “As someone who has established a career at the Food Bank over the past 14 years, she has the institutional knowledge and industry experience needed to enable the program department to provide superior customer service to our partners, and serve the community with compassion, dignity and respect.”

Schilken is leaving her post to spend time with her family and complete studies towards a second Master’s degree.

“Marnie provided excellent leadership and vision, and has played a critical role in the Food Bank’s impact throughout her tenure,” Scales said. “She has been a fierce advocate for staff and the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We wish her all the best as she goes on to complete a second Master’s degree and explore new career horizons.”

McKinney is a graduate of Carlow University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business, and Master of Science in Management and Technology, as well as a Master of Business Administration. Prior to the Food Bank, she worked at WQED Multimedia where she created, developed and implemented PBS education and literacy training throughout the metro Pittsburgh and regional area. She created innovative literacy programs that targeted underserved students in schools, after school and community outreach programs that provide valuable educational experiences to area children.
