Volunteers inspect, sort and repackage thousands of pounds of food each week. Located in the Food Bank’s main facility in Duquesne, PA, volunteering in the Volunteer Engagement Center is a great opportunity to learn more about the scale of our work in southwestern Pennsylvania. This support is essential in our efforts to distribute food to individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community.
The Volunteer Engagement Center is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. This volunteer opportunity is open to individuals who are 12 years or older. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes to participate.
The Food Bank is happy to announce we have begun using the Cool Zone in the Volunteer Engagement Center! This space is an exciting addition to our volunteer operations. It allows us to sort, package and process fresh food in a temperature controlled environment so that we can provide more healthy options to our neighbors and reduce food waste. The temperature in the Cool Zone is approximately 55°F, so please bring additional layers of clothing to your Volunteer Engagement Center shifts.
