April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate those who are the heart of our mission!
Volunteers embody one of the core beliefs of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank – Food is Love. In the past year, 6,900 volunteers have spent over 71,000 hours of their time with us, sharing that love.
Volunteers share their love through packing boxes and sorting produce in the Volunteer Engagement Center; serving neighbors in The Market; loading groceries into cars at distributions; gleaning at local farms; and so much more. In the past fiscal year, volunteers helped:
- pack 381,000 pounds of produce in the Volunteer Engagement Center;
- serve more than 41,000 families at distributions; and
- serve nearly 25,000 households in The Market
We cannot thank volunteers enough for their dedication to neighbors across our 11-county service area.
Committed to the mission of leveraging the power of community to achieve lasting solutions to hunger and its root causes, volunteers join us as individuals looking to make an impact. We have the honor of inviting volunteers from community and school groups, religious organizations, through our corporate team-building program and more.
The unwavering devotion from volunteers has been foundational in sustaining the Food Bank throughout the last 40 years. Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers – both individuals and groups – for their continued support through building renovations, the opening of The Market and its online ordering and outdoor locker expansion, special events such as Holiday Market and Empty Bowls and more. We are excited to continue our partnership with you as we move forward in our mission to end hunger in our region.
We invite all volunteers to join in the celebration of your commitment to the Food Bank this month, and every month. We hope you will join us in recognizing your kindness and the great impact that you have on the Food Bank and on the lives of the families we serve.
Sincerely,
The Community Engagement Team
