On June 22, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank had the pleasure of participating in this year’s Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community with 16 of our partner agencies. Our Food Bank recognizes this unique opportunity for our partner agencies to fundraise for their pantries and serve the needs of our neighbors. Our top partner team was Saint Mary Magdalene Ministries pantries team, who raised more than $32,000. They hope this will help cover the cost to purchase food for their pantries, St. James Ministries pantry & St. Charles Lwanga pantry, until next year’s Highmark Walk.
The collective efforts of all partner teams raised nearly $36,000, which will be used to provide meals to neighbors in southwestern Pennsylvania. We want to extend our gratitude to Highmark for all their efforts to make this event happen, the 50+ other nonprofits that make this event as fun and energizing as they do and to all our walkers and fundraisers that made Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s teams the top fundraisers!
Above you can see the photo of Food Bank staff accepting the special award for organizing the top-fundraising team — a quilt comprised of all the Highmark Walk region t-shirts (Lehigh Valley, Laurel Highlands, Pittsburgh, Erie, Harrisburg & Wilmington regions). As the Saint Mary Magdalene Ministries pantries team was crucial in making our team so successful, we gifted them the quilt.
We hope that next year you’ll join us to walk for a healthy community!
