A “SUPER” Food Podcast

Posted on January 31, 2020 by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

Written by Brian Gulish, VP of Marketing and Communications at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

When we launched the podcast last year, never did I envision we’d be taking it on the road within the first six months, let alone to the Super Bowl. This Friday, that becomes a reality!

Food Bank board member Bill Fuller, who is president and corporate chef of the big Burrito Restaurant Group, will be joining me in Miami for three days of content generation for the podcast. We will be live vlogging the entire journey, including multiple Facebook Live sessions. The first of those Facebook Live broadcasts will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. from Pittsburgh International Airport. Prior to our departure, Bill and I will be previewing the trip and all the amazing opportunities we will have.

Not including the Super Bowl itself, the highlight of our weekend will be attending the Taste of the NFL- Party with a Purpose event at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida. Recognized as the premier culinary and sports event during Super Bowl weekend, 32 chefs representing the 32 NFL cities will be preparing signature dishes. More than 40 current NFL players, Hall of Famers and Legends will be in attendance as well. Not only will Bill and I be representing the Food Bank at the event, we will also be on the red carpet, conducting interviews and learning why the athletes and celebrities in attendance support the event- which benefits food banks across the country.

The mission of Taste of the NFL is to address the needs of the hungry and homeless by raising awareness and money through special events and programs. For more than two and a half decades, Taste of the NFL has been fighting to end hunger. In that time, they’ve raised more than $26 million, resulting in over 220 meals for Americans in need.

Bill and I will also have access to the Super Bowl media center during the weekend, which includes “Radio Row”. Needless to say, we will have many opportunities to promote Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, while collecting interviews for the show.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bill, he has supported our mission for over 20 years. In addition to personally supporting the mission with yearly contributions and volunteering, Bill has also directed support for the Food Bank through the big Burrito Restaurant Group Benefit Dinner Series wherein all proceeds of private dinners go directly to the Food Bank. Bill has assisted with our annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for two decades as well.

Bill earnestly believes that everyone deserves to eat. From his own experience of hunger growing up food-insecure, Bill understands what it means to not know where he might get his next meal. He also knows that a food secure environment enables children to learn better, live healthier and to have a more empowered outlook on life.  Bill has made a career out of feeding people and believes that the Food Bank is an important resource for our community.

A full schedule of our Facebook Live broadcasts will be available this coming Friday. Also, be sure to bookmark our new podcast website real-time content from Miami- https://pittsburghfoodbank.org/foodpodcast/

Thank you to our amazing sponsors who helped underwrite this trip: Trend Teams, the Wayne Carson Team at ReMax, TABLE Magazine, and HomeRestylers.
