When you speak out, you use your voice to urge your elected officials to do their part to help end hunger. Decisions made by our elected officials have a huge impact both on the supply of food available to give to people in need and on the demand for charitable food assistance. 

 

We’re proud to work side-by-side with elected officials and government agencies to strengthen legislation, regulations, and program policies that address the root causes of hunger and improve food security in our community and across the nation.

Take Action to Protect SNAP

SNAP is a bridge to opportunity that strengthens communities and helps families afford food. Recent changes could limit access, and states need time to adjust. Join Feeding America and urge your member of Congress to delay the SNAP cost shift for 2 years to keep food support stable.

Food banks across Pennsylvania are serving more neighbors as the cost of food, housing, and utilities continues to rise. State programs like PASS and SFPP help keep our shelves stocked with fresh, healthy food while supporting Pennsylvania farmers. Contact your state legislators and urge them to invest in programs that help ensure our neighbors are fed.

Neighbor Leadership Council 

In 2024, the Government Affairs team at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank proudly launched the Neighbor Leadership Council (NLC), a groundbreaking program that brings together community members with lived experience with food insecurity to inform our advocacy efforts. Their lived experiences provide invaluable guidance, helping the Food Bank develop programs and initiatives that truly address the needs of our community. This innovative approach ensures that those directly affected by food insecurity have a seat at the table and a voice in shaping solutions.  

The 2025-2026 Neighbor Leadership Council is now underway. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved.
