When you speak out, you use your voice to urge your elected officials to do their part to help end hunger. Decisions made by our elected officials have a huge impact both on the supply of food available to give to people in need and on the demand for charitable food assistance.

We’re proud to work side-by-side with elected officials and government agencies to strengthen legislation, regulations, and program policies that address the root causes of hunger and improve food security in our community and across the nation.

Take Action to Protect SNAP

Right now, the federal government is shutdown and almost 2 million neighbors across Pennsylvania are at risk of not receiving SNAP benefits next month. Use your voice to protect access to food and prevent a crisis that would stretch the resources of the charitable food network beyond our limits.

Neighbor Leadership Council

In 2024, the Government Affairs team at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank proudly launched the Neighbor Leadership Council (NLC), a groundbreaking program that brings together community members with lived experience with food insecurity to inform our advocacy efforts. Their lived experiences provide invaluable guidance, helping the Food Bank develop programs and initiatives that truly address the needs of our community. This innovative approach ensures that those directly affected by food insecurity have a seat at the table and a voice in shaping solutions. 

The 2025-2026 Neighbor Leadership Council is now underway. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved.
