The Child Hunger Hero award program recognizes school districts and community partners making outstanding contributions to food security for kids within Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s service area.
How do I apply?
Applications for 2023 are now open. Download the applicable application and email the completed document to [email protected] by November 15th. Be sure to download the correct survey for your organization. School districts should download the School Partner Engagement Survey to apply. Community Partners who sponsor SFSP and/or CACFP should download the Community Sponsor Partner Engagement Survey to apply.
How does it work?
Partners are evaluated on their child nutrition programs including: school breakfast, summer food, afterschool meals, weekend meals, school pantries, and other child food security efforts.
Who is eligible?
Public and private school districts and community Sponsors of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and/or Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset and Washington Counties.
What are the award levels?
Award levels are gold, silver and bronze. Levels are awarded based on the school or community partner’s level of participation across both federal and private child nutrition programs. All award levels provide exceptional service to kids.
