Glenn comes to the Washington County Drive up distribution once a month, but this past month was his first time driving a truck to the distribution.
Glenn cuts grass for many seniors in the county. After cutting the lawns, he noticed many of the seniors were homebound and struggling to get food. Now he picks up food for between six and eight seniors and delivers it to their homes.
“It takes me about three quarters of the day because I’ll sit and I’ll talk with them. So, if something needs done, I load it. I’ll go do it.”
And the new set of wheels will help him with the monthly delivery. The truck was recently given to him by a senior whose husband passed away in hopes of ensuring other seniors get the food they need too.
“And the one [senior] where I got the truck, she always grabs me by the arm and says, ‘Look, my cupboards are full because of you,’” he said.
The Washington county native says connecting with seniors has given him purpose since his wife died 11 years ago, and the variety of fresh items from the distribution has personally impacted him too.
“So other than that, with the vegetables and stuff I eat, I finally got my blood pressure better and health wise, it’s actually improved me.”
