Students who start their day with breakfast are more likely to maintain focus, remember previous lessons and have more nutritionally-balanced diets. Though the COVID-19 pandemic has changed many things for schools, it hasn’t changed their commitment to school breakfast and ensuring that kids have access to healthy, balanced meals. Most schools throughout southwestern PA have been offering grab and go meal bundles that include both breakfast and lunch.
Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) are no exception. Since the start of the pandemic, PPS has been operating grab and go meal pick-up locations at 25 school buildings throughout the city. All PPS students are eligible for grab and go meals and may pick up from the 
school most convenient for them.
This month, PPS is collaborating with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Adagio Health, Allies for Children, CitiParks, the Dairy Council and other partners to celebrate school breakfast with its third annual poster contest. All PPS students are encouraged to participate by creating a breakfast poster with the theme, “Score Big with School Breakfast.” Student submissions will be judged with their age group (K-2, 3-5, 6-12). The top three submissions for each age group will win prize packages:
- First prize: $100 VISA gift card, new bike, art supplies, sports-themed swag
- Second prize: $50 VISA gift card, $20 Eat N’ Park gift card, art supplies
- Third prize: $25 VISA gift card, sports ball pack, art supplies
