Over the past year, families with children have been challenged in unimaginable ways with many kids still learning remotely. In our region, 21 percent of kids face food insecurity. During the summer of 2020, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (the Food Bank) saw a 240 percent increase in the number of meals given to children across its 11-county service area.
In addition to families needing help with food, for some families, safe child care in a pinch can be a challenge. As we continue our dedication to our Food Justice is Social Justice Initiative, we’re proud to partner with Jeremiah’s Place, Pittsburgh’s only crisis nursery designed to provide a safe haven of respite, health, renewal and support for children and families during times of crisis.
We are thankful for the work of Jeremiah’s Place and are delighted to partner with them today for this Food Justice is Social Justice takeover.
