How do I qualify?

Families must have income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty guidelines, and a resident of either Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Somerset or Washington County. What’s a shopping buddy?

Shopping buddies accompany guest with shopping carts as they make their product selections in the Market. They encourage families to try a variety of healthy nutritious food and fresh produce. While shopping, the shopping buddies share wholesome recipes and help guest find the items needed to prepare the meal.

How can I get food if I do not live in your service area?

Call 2-1-1, visit 211.org or use our Find Food Guide to find a food pantry near you.

What do I need to bring with me?

When visiting The Market, you must bring a photo ID with your current address listed every time you visit. If your photo ID does not have your current address listed, please bring another proof of residency (social security statement or utility bill). We also ask that you bring reusable bags for your groceries.

What if I can only visit between 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m.?

Guests who arrive between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. will be offered a Market Mix pre-packed box but will not be invited to shop during that time. Guests can pick up OrderAhead orders during shopping hours or during the 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. non-shopping time.

Is there a lot of paperwork?

No, there is not a lot of paperwork. We register you electronically and it only takes about five minutes to complete your registration. Once you are registered, you will check-in for future visits by scanning your shopper’s card that we issue during your first visit.​

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointments needed.

What do I do when I get there?

At The Market, you will be greeted and given a number then escorted to the intake office to get registered. When your number is called you can start shopping for groceries with a shopping buddy.

How many times can I visit?

You are welcome to visit The Market twice per month, but not more than one time in a single week.

Can I get food for someone else?

Yes, as long as the person you are getting food for has completed a proxy form with your name on it. If there is a current proxy form on file with your name on it, you can pick up a pre-packed Market Mix box for them or you can pick up their OrderAhead order. Please note that no one can shop for someone else. You are welcome to pick up for up to two households other than your own.

Can someone else get food for me?

Yes, as long as you have a completed proxy form on file with their name on it. Please note that the person you list as your proxy cannot shop for you, but they will be able to pick up a pre-packed Market Mix box or an OrderAhead order that you’ve placed in advance. Any other person who is listed as a member of your household and is over the age of 18 can shop in The Market for your household.

What kind of food do you have?

We offer a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, shelf stable items, meats and non-food.

Do I get to pick my own food?

Yes but all guests will shop with a shopping buddy.

How much does it cost?

Our service is provided to the community at no cost.

Do you have other ways you can help me?

Yes, customers can sign up for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — formerly known as Food Stamps. We also have information about other resources and support services. How can I find out about SNAP and other resources?

Inclement Weather Policy

In case of severe weather, The Market may delay opening, stop service, or close early. Before coming to shop, please give us a call at 412.460.3663 and listen to the pre-recorded message. If our hours of operation have changed, it will be stated in the recording. You many also see weather-related closure on your local news stations, but it is always best to call us.​
