April marks volunteer appreciation month and we are thrilled to share our gratitude with the multitude of volunteers who help us fulfill our mission annually.
At Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, we work with a diverse network of more than 6,000 volunteers annually to fulfill our mission critical programming.
“The Food Bank could not carry out its mission without the hundreds of volunteers who help us sort, pack, deliver and distribute food. Whether you have volunteered with us once, or weekly, we are grateful for the time and effort you took to feed some of our most vulnerable neighbors in southwestern Pennsylvania. Our dedicated, empathetic and committed volunteer force is one of the main reasons Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank distributes more than 40 million meals a year.” -Jordan Hartman, Distributions Manager
In the last year, volunteers contributed more than 52,000 hours of service. It’s undeniable that volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Here are some highlights of what volunteers were able to accomplish this past year!
- Served 3.5 million meals through drive-up distributions
- Packed 361,133 boxes in our Volunteer Engagement Center
- Served 208,000 meals through our senior box program
- Sent 91,000 direct mail letters to our supporters
- Delivered 2,262 senior boxes directly to homes
- Completed 400+ food and fund drives and virtual food drives
Our amazing, committed volunteers make this work so special, thank you! The work you have done for the Food Bank and the people we serve goes far beyond the meals distributed and the boxes packed. With every box you pack, every meal you deliver and every letter you send, you share hope and love with our neighbors facing hunger.
It’s truly difficult to articulate just how much your support means to our organization; so we’ll keep it simple. Thank you for being a volunteer.
Sincerely,
The Volunteer Team
