Food Shouldn’t Be an Impossible Choice | Hunger Action Month

Food bank near me.

Posted on September 7, 2021 by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

September is Hunger Action Month, and hunger is not an issue we can solve alone. In southwestern Pennsylvania, 14.4 percent (1 in 7) of our neighbors are living with food insecurity in the wake of COVID-19. The good news is that YOU can help by donating, volunteering and advocating.

Whether you’re interested in food rescue through gleaning or helping to pack boxes in the warehouse, learn more about ways to volunteer here.

Through advocacy, you use your voice to urge your elected officials to do their part to help end hunger. Learn more about our advocacy efforts here.

By donating you provide meals to our neighbors living with hunger. Every $1 donated can provide up to five meals to the community. Find more information on ways to give here.

Businesses and Restaurants partner with the Food Bank to help feed our community

All September long we are excited to partner with several local businesses, organizations and restaurants to provide relief to our 11-county service area. To help provide more food to our neighbors in need, these partners are hosting a variety of campaigns including special events, promotions, sales, happy hours, challenges and register round-up campaigns.

Sullivan Super Service has been dedicated to serving our community for over 20 years through their unique cause marketing campaigns. This year, Sullivan Super Service is hosting their 20th annual food drive bringing employees and customers together to provide some of the most needed food items to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. When a Sullivan Super Service customer donates a non-perishable food item, they also receive a $25 coupon for their next plumbing, heating, or cooling related repair. Over the years this partnership between Sullivan Super Service and the Food Bank has resulted in thousands of pounds of food and funds donated and distributed into our community.

Check out the businesses hosting campaigns to support the Food Bank during Hunger Action Month.

Or find a community event to attend.

If you have a business, organization or restaurant and would like to collaborate on a cause marketing campaign, please reach out to the community fundraising team at 412-745-FUND (3863) or [email protected].

Together, we can end hunger in our community.
