Scouting for Food supports neighbors in need

Posted on April 19, 2021 by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

posted on behalf of the Community Fundraising Team

Each year, Boy Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council and UPMC support Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by hosting the Annual Scouting for Food Campaign. Scouting for Food began in 1985 to replenish food banks as many were nearing the end of the fiscal year with low food supplies. The need to replenish food remains high as we continue to see a 31 percent increase in the need for help with food across the region due to the pandemic.

In years past, through the dedication of Boy Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council and UPMC, millions of pounds of food have been collected to help end hunger in our communities. This year, there are more ways to give than ever before.

Boy Scouts of America Laurel Highlands Council is hosting a council-wide collection day. A no-contact drop-off station will be available for individuals to safely donate nonperishable items.

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Day: Saturday, April 24

Location: Flag Plaza Scout Center, 1275 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

UPMC is hosting a virtual food drive which will allow us to continue our efforts of providing an increased amount of fresh produce to the children, families and seniors we serve. For every $1 raised, the Food Bank can provide up to the community. To donate, please visit pittsburghfoodbank.org/upmc.

The Food Bank is deeply grateful to both of these organizations and the individuals who support their efforts. While the need for help with food has increased dramatically over the last year, by working together we can ensure that all of our neighbors have enough food for today, tomorrow and a lifetime.
