Scouting for Foods

For more than 20 years the Boy Scouts of America-Greater Pittsburgh Council have made April Scouting for Food month. More than 6,000 Boy Scouts hand out grocery bags to their neighbors, schools, congregations and civic groups, and pick them up at a later pre-determined date when they’re full. All of the food collected throughout southwestern Pennsylvania remains in the local communities where it is collected. Pittsburgh’s conscientious corporations also participate by sponsoring supplies, hosting their own food drives, or the latest development: having a Virtual Food Drive. And don’t forget: Pirates Opening Day at PNC Park is Scouting for Food Day – if every baseball fan brought two cans of food, the Food Bank could provide more than 70,000 meals to the hungry – so don’t forget those cans!
